GIRL CHILD MOVEMENT BOTSWANA
Inspired To Empower, Protect and Support

ABOUT US:
The Girl Child Movement Botswana (GCM) is a grassroots initiative that was thought up by Lebang Sadi Gagoope in 2020, and she later founded it in 2024 after seeing a growing number of murder cases of young girls in the country by their love partners. With the aim to empower, protect, and support young girls and women, Sadi has been joined by a group of young women with the same beliefs as hers who have become the first executive of the GCM; together they have agreed to stand up and be the voice of the voiceless women and girls in Botswana. The movement seeks to address the unique challenges faced by girls and women in the country, such as drug abuse, high rates of teenage pregnancy, and gender-based violence that always ends up with the killing of girls and women. "Sadi" Gagoope's life was forever changed when she lost both of her parents under similar tragic and mysterious circumstances when she was a toddler. Growing up, Sadi witnessed first-hand the hardships faced by girls and women in her community, fuelling her determination to create a better future for other girls who might find themselves in a similar situation she grew up in, or worse.
The Girl Child Movement Botswana is dedicated to driving positive change and creating a supportive environment for young girls and women. Our team is committed to advocating for gender equality, education, and empowerment, ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. Read more

OUR FOCUS
Empowerment and Protection Programs
Community Support
Our empowerment is carried out through community social clubs; these are safe spaces for the girl child to meet, discuss, and find solutions with others. They also attend workshops that provide young girls with valuable life skills, mentorship, and educational resources. We believe in creating a supportive community that advocates for the rights and well-being of the girl child.
Advocacy and Awareness
We offer advocacy programs to raise awareness about the issues affecting girls in Botswana. We have the following activities: Get to know your rights activities; choose your career, fitness and health, sports for the girl child, as well as art and culture activities. Through collaborative efforts, we strive to bring about positive change and eliminate gender-based discrimination.
Crisis Intervention
In times of crisis, we provide immediate support and intervention to protect and assist young girls facing various challenges. We work with government line ministries, the police on girl child rescue missions, and correctional services for the rehabilitation of the girl child who is in conflict with the law. Our goal is to ensure their safety and well-being during these difficult circumstances.
